The majority of Houston residential roofs are asphalt — for good reasons. Architectural shingles from Owens Corning, CertainTeed, and TAMKO are well-suited to Houston’s climate, cost-competitive, and backed by extended manufacturer warranties when installed by credentialed contractors. Impact-resistant versions (Duration STORM, Landmark IR) carry Class 4 ratings and Texas insurance discounts. Lifespan: 18 to 25 years depending on installation quality, ventilation, and storm exposure. Cost: $450 to $750 per square installed.

Metal Roofing

Standing seam metal handles Houston’s wind and hail environment exceptionally well. The concealed fastener system eliminates the uplift vulnerability of individual shingles. Lifespan: 40+ years for quality standing seam. Cost: $700 to $1,200 per square installed. Makes economic sense for long-term ownership horizons and homeowners who’ve been through multiple replacement cycles.

Tile Roofing

Concrete and clay tile performs well in Houston’s climate — heavy, durable, and thermally efficient. The structural requirement (tile is significantly heavier than asphalt) needs to be assessed before installation. Brava synthetic tile gives you the aesthetic of slate or cedar shake at lower weight and with Class 4 impact rating. RCC is a Brava Preferred installer.

Cedar and Synthetic Cedar

Natural cedar requires moisture management discipline in Houston’s humid climate. Brava Cedar Shake synthetic replicates the appearance without the moisture sensitivity or maintenance burden. Both run $650 to $1,100 per square installed.

Euroshield Recycled Rubber

Class 4 impact rating, 50-year hail warranty, recycled tire rubber construction. Runs $800 to $1,400 per square. Longest warranty coverage of any product we install. RCC is an authorized Euroshield installer. Schedule your inspection to discuss which is right for your home.
