Roof Repair That Can’t Wait: Active Leaks and Time-Sensitive Damage in Houston
Some roof problems allow for scheduled repairs. Others don’t. Knowing the difference protects your home from compounding damage that grows significantly more expensive with each rain event.
Conditions That Require Immediate Action
Active water entry into living space or attic — any situation where water is actively penetrating the structure during rain events requires immediate attention. RCC provides emergency tarping and stabilization when conditions allow work to be performed safely. The tarp is a temporary measure — permanent repair follows as soon as weather permits.
Displaced structural components after a major wind event — if ridge boards, decking sections, or significant areas of shingles have been displaced by wind, the structural integrity of the roof system needs to be assessed before the next rain event. These are not wait-and-see situations in Houston’s climate.
Tree impact damage — a fallen limb that’s penetrated the decking or displaced significant material creates an immediate moisture entry risk. Even if the limb is removed, the area it damaged needs inspection and temporary protection until permanent repair can be completed.
Conditions That Can Be Scheduled
Isolated missing shingles on slopes that aren’t currently wet, early-stage flashing separation without active leaking, granule loss identified during inspection without current moisture intrusion, and deteriorated pipe boots that haven’t yet failed — these can be scheduled within a reasonable timeframe, typically 2 to 4 weeks. “Scheduled” doesn’t mean indefinite — Houston’s storm frequency means a non-emergency repair window can close quickly when the next weather system moves through.
